What to Feed Bearded Dragons?

Bearded dragons are among the friendliest reptiles in the world. Their interesting personalities add to their popularity amid reptile keepers. Being reptiles, these animals feed mostly on the insects, and the most common insect feeder for these reptiles is dubia roaches. These feeders (Dubia roaches) are also very healthy for the hairy dragons.  Being reptiles, most people think that animals only feed on insects. But no! That’s not the case. What do they eat generally?

Bearded dragons are omnivores, which mean they eat both animals and plants. Generally, when these reptiles are very young, they are supposed to eat eighty percent of bugs and twenty percent plants. On the other hand, adult dragons eat nearly the exact opposite of the diet. If thinking of what to feed bearded insects, read on!

Collard greens

These vegetables are an excellent source of vitamin A, C, K, and Manganese. They are also an awesome source of vitamin B6 and calcium. Give your favorite reptiles tiny pieces of these greens, and they will enjoy it.

Dandelion greens

The greens are among the healthiest ones. The leafy vegetable is loaded with vitamin K, A, and C. it is also rich in calcium. Remember to feed the pets with the leaves but not the flower.

Grapes

Grapes are rich in vitamin E, C, K, and other minerals such as folate and calcium. However, remember that the grapes are acidic and so you should feed the gentle beasts only the red grapes, but occasionally.

Kiwi

For a rare treat to the gentle friends, offer them some fresh kiwi. However, you should limit the servings for about twice a month as the fruit is a bit acidic. However, it is very nutritious to the reptiles.

Worms and insects

Insects are a crucial part of the bearded dragons’ diet. With that in mind, it is necessary to make sure that your pet eats the ideal amount as well as the species. These dragons love feeding on live mealworms, crickets, wax worms, and some other insects. The young reptiles should eat once a day while the adults should eat every two days. If the bearded dragons fail to finish the meal, feed them less next time.

Packaged food

The bearded dragons can also feed on the packed food. The food comes with a variety of the reptiles’ diet. Most foods are available in high protein formulas for small lizards and lower protein versions for adult reptiles. Al you need is to pick the right one for your pet.

Water

Bearded dragons can survive on very little water, but it is important for them to take water from time to time. If he is not interested in taking water from the shallow dish available to them, sprinkle some water in their vegetables.

In conclusion, it is good to remember that the pet is omnivorous, which means they enjoy feeding on vegetables, fruits, and small animals.  Serving the right food in the right portion will keep the pets healthy. However, to guarantee their greatest growth and health, make sure you offer them the right living conditions, in addition to the right food!
