Can Cats Eat Dog Treats

Perhaps you are holding a dog treat when your cat begins to beg for it. You do not want to disappoint your feline friend but are not sure about the safety of dog treats to your kitty. You are unsure what to do, as you ask yourself, “Can cats eat do food?” Read on for a favorable answer.

Facts on cats and dog treats

Sometimes, your cat may be hungry or just curious about dog food. If this is your case or if the fondness for your cat overwhelms you into feeding it, then such treats must be measured. Dog treats pack a lot of calories whose regular intake can make your kitty obese. As larger and more active canines, dogs require more calories to sustain their lifestyles. Dog treats are meant to help maintain dogs’ energy levels and are not appropriate for cats. Unlike dogs, cats fast and hunt a lot. Therefore, constant feeding with dog treats or any other food is harmful to your furball.

Again, you may want to treat your feline friend to instill good behavior, supplement vitamin deficiencies, and reinforce its dental health. It may be excusable for you to give your cat an occasional and strictly measured dog treat. Meanwhile, you must remember that dog treats do not benefit your cat at all. Dog treats contain nutrients that are not essential to obligate carnivores like kitties. Such treats also lack the right quantities of nutrients specific for cats. This means that regular dog treats can also malnourished your furball.

Conclusion

Can cats eat dog treats? Sure, they can. However, dog treats do not benefit your kitty in any way. Instead, the treats can make your cat malnourished, obese, and vulnerable to circulatory illnesses with a high amount of calories in them. The treats must be rare and small.
